Description

During this workshop you will learn to work with wool in an abstract and graphic way. We will look at colour combinations, composition and combining the various materials and felting techniques. Once you have completed this workshop and the ‘painting and sculpting with wool’ workshop, you will have everything you need to continue experimenting at home or here in the studio.

In first lesson you create a series of two or three small works that go together. These can be multiple fields of colour like a Rothko painting or you choose just one colour and combine that with another material such as fabric. For this we use fleece wool or carded fleece.

The second lesson we make a seamless cover for a book / bag / laptop / hot-water bottle / etc. For this, we use giant yarn (roving) and a plastic template. For sturdiness, we make thick felt. At the end, you can also embellish your felt cover by creating a design on it as an extra layer using needle felting.

The third lesson let's make a piece of needle-punched felt. Needle-punched felt is a soft blanket that has already been partially felted. By cutting shapes from the needle-punched felt and laying them on top of and against each other and then felting them with water and soap, you get a piece with clean lines instead of the painterly look when using roving. You can work very graphically. In this workshop we also use the technique of needle felting. This allows you to add lines and shapes as an extra layer.

To turn it straight into a painting, frames are provided to stretch it on at the end.

During all lessons, the drum carder can be used to blend wool.

During the workshop, we will be standing while working. If that is difficult for you, please let me know.
